4 Days 3 Nights - Explore the beauty of nature with some light adventure in Loei

Loei province is located in the northeast of Thailand surrounded by mountain chains and beautiful nature. One of the best known mountains of the nation which situated in Loei are Mt. Phukradung, the all time favorite trekking mountain of Thailand, followed by Mt. Phuluang Wildlife Sanctuary and Mt. Phuruea National park. For those who are seeking for less crowded tourist attractions and really want to chill out in countryside just a few more days, come to see our beautiful Buddhist temples, experience our Isan culture, enjoy traditional Isan foods, stroll along the old town Chiangkhan night-walking street and Mekong River, then this holiday package may be one of your great choices.


Programme Itinerary

Please book your morning departure flights from Bangkok DMK to Loei (LOE) with Nok Air flight DD 372 or Air Asia FD flight 3542 and a morning return flight to Bangkok DMK with Nok Air flight DD 373

Nok Air and Air Asia operate a short 1 hr flight, aircraft types B737-800 and A320

Day1.

11-12.00 am Airport pickup, meet and greet with Mountain Hike Staff. He will wait and show TTHC’s pickup signpost at the arrival hall then accommodate the group to our VIP Toyota commuter 12 seats van and travel from the airport to Huai Krating Reservoir (23 km) to enjoy a local lunch. (Journey time approx 30 minutes)


12.30 pm Welcome lunch on a floating bamboo hut at Huai Krating Reservoir. Boarding into a floating bamboo hut and enjoy a local lunch while cruising on a reservoir. (set menu for the group + soft drinks and a glass of beer) 

14.30 pm Travel back to Loei city. We take the group to the city’s famous mountain called. Mt. Phubobit. Take a short hike to the peak (distance 800 meters walk) from the car park, climbing the stairs and a wooden skywalk terrace. Observe the city’s mountains view from the peak at 520 meters elevation. 

16.30 pm Check in at Loei Palace Hotel. Have a shower, relax and meet again around 18.00 pm for a bicycle hopping tour for street foods. We ride bicycles in circle within 2 km round trip from the hotel to a night market and Sathol Chiangkhan Rd. (a night street food road). We can try some delicious local foods together (each person can select up to 6 skewer grilled or deep fried foods for starter + set menu for the group upon a selection local restaurant + soft drink or a glass of beer*** please see street food tour brochure in attached file***). If you can’t decide what to eat, no need to worry just let our guide know what kind of foods do you like and he will recommend and organize everything for you.

Please note: In case of the hotel’s bicycles are fully booked; we will then carry on a hopping walking tour instead. We take you to the same place but by walk.

Go back to the hotel, relax and goodnight for day 1.


Day2

06 - 08.00 am Breakfast at the hotel and meet at the lobby area at 08.00 am. Check out and prepare for a journey to a highland district Phuruea.

08.30 am Depart from the city to Phuruea District. Visit the gigantic white Buddha statue at Huai Lad Temple (travel distance from the city 47 km, 1 hour ride)

***Highlight*** the charming white Buddha statue is 19 meters tall. It was made from calcite ore. People believe that the ore can heal their souls and minds especially, and if you sit or walk meditation near to the Buddha statue, the attraction of the calcite ore will spread out to your body and make you stay healthy.


10.30 am Drive up to Mt. Phuruea’s summit, one of the famous mountains in Thailand. We park the van at the check point 2 and take a group for a short hike along the cliff (distance 700 meters, 10-15 minutes walk) to reach the highest point at 1,365 meters high above sea level, free time to take some amazing photos and enjoy a nature for awhile then we head down for lunch at a local restaurant.


12.00 noon Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Each person can select 1 main dish, 1 + 1 dessert and soft drink or a glass of beer. (Option for the group 1. A typical central food style restaurant or 2. A typical Isan food style restaurant) 

13.00 pm We continue driving to Dansai District (36 km) arriving at Phrathat Sri Song Rak, the province’s most respectful pagoda.

Dan Sai means the Left Fortress. It was the fortress town in the past. ***Phrathat Sri Song Rak*** is a pagoda of the truth and friendship between Thailand and Laos which was built by 2 kingdoms back to 462 years ago (1560’s) once the Burmese kingdom (Myanmar) was so powerful and wanted to occupy Ayutthaya kingdom (Thailand) and the Lan Xang Kingdom (Vientiane, Laos). The kings of these 2 kingdoms agreed to not invade each other’s territory but agreed to help and support each other against the invasion of the Burmese military by building this pagoda as a solid witness of truth, friendship and cooperation.


14.00 pm  Arrive to Dansia Town Distirct and we will take a short visit at a small temple where we can see a local heritage conservation “Phi Ta Khon Masks” museum at Wat Phon Chai. Phi Ta Khon is also a nation’s famous festival that takes place around June-July every year in a form of dancing parade where people from several villages within dansai district gathering together and wearing a theme costume and painting masks for competition and entertaining crowded tourists along the road. This festival is to also cerebrate for the city angels and respectfully ask the angels to make the rain falls in the right season to help the villagers carry on doing their agriculture successfully for each year and also to express their gratitude for the rich harvest. At the museum there is the demonstration of Phi Ta Khon masks making for example, the head is made from a half-folded earthenware steamer which looks like a hat. The face is made from a base of a coconut branch. It is sewed together with the head part and then pierced for the eyes. The nose is made from a carved soft wood which looks like a human's nose. The color decoration was normally painted by natural colors such as white lime, red lime, ashes, curcuma, and soot in the past but now they are mostly painted by acrylic water colors. At the temple’s chapel, we can also see the 400 years old golden Buddha statue. (Since we arrive late afternoon, the museum may close but we can still walk around the temple and take some amazing photos of Phi Ta Khon displayed masks. 

15.00 pm Try painting a small version of Phi Ta Khon Mark with a local artist in Dansai District, we visit “Kawinthip Handicraft” workshop where the group can enjoy a fun painting with a local well known artist “Kawinthip” who is the first person in Dansia Town that has transformed the original of Phi Ta Khon marks size into many form of souvenirs such as puppets, magnets, handbags, screened T-shirt and key rings. She is also teaching local children and hotels or resorts staff to paint and make many forms of souvenirs related to Phi Ta Khon Marks by using local material. She has been conducted painting workshops in Sweden, Austria and Japan and her Phi Ta Khon artworks have also appeared in a French magazine and displayed in China World Explore event years ago. 

17.00 pm We will take the group for a quick walking tour at a local market to see the vibe of a countryside market where you can see local produces such as dragon fruits, homegrown vegetables, herb, spices, rice grains, some street foods and snacks. ***The group can try some street foods recommended by our guide. There is no extra charge, tourists do not pay for street foods in Dansai market. This covers in the package. However, if it is too late then, we will skip a street food and take a group to a local restaurant**

17.30 pm Enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant in Dansai town. This restaurant is called Khun Nai Restaurant. (Set menu for the group + soft drinks or a glass of beer) 

Travel from Dansai to our 2nd night accommodation (15 km, 14 minutes drive)


19.00 pm Check in at a holiday home Country House Khokngam*** for a group 2-6 persons If there are more than 6 persons, for example the group of 10. We will divide the group in 2 groups. The first 6 persons will stay at Country House Khokngam (shared 5foots single bed for 2 persons per house) and the rest of 4 persons will stay at Phu Pha Nam Resort and Spa accommodation (located 3 km away from Country House Khokngam).

Day3

08.00 am Breakfast at Country House Khokngam or Phu Pha Nam Resort and Spa and check out at 08.00 am. Quick stop for hot or cold drinks at Café Amazon in Khokngam Village

09.00 am Visit massive crafted teak wood chapels and the crafted jade stone that came from Mekong river. This temple is called Wat Somdej Phuruea Ming Mueang. There is a charming Laotian golden principle Buddha statue in the main chapel and a one long chapel hall (200 meters long) with the demonstration of the large Buddha time frame event photos on the display wall toward the end of the chapel with a big beautiful wooden door that we can enjoy a view of Phuruea district.

After this, we will take a long drive from the temple to Na Pa Nad Village (Tai Dum Cultural Village). It is approximately 90 km, 1.30 hrs drive. 


11.00 am Arrive at Tai Dum Cultural Village (Thai people wear black color costumes) whose ancestors had migrated from Laos in 1905. Their culture has been well preserved in the forms of their folk houses and lifestyle. We can observe the traditional weaving process being demonstrated also visit the village gallery shop (women weaving group handmade products). 

The village grows cottons and use as raw material to produce Isan Style Silk and Mudmee clothes, table cloths, cotton bags, pursers, indigo jackets, silk jackets, T-shirt and small piece of souvenirs for example. Their products gain high interest among Japanese market and used to exhibit their village handmade items at an exhibition event in Tokyo.  

12.00 noon Have lunch at ViengViet Restaurant (Set menu for the group + soft drinks or a glass of beer)  

13.00 pm Take a short drive 40 minutes (25 km) from the restaurant to Chiangkhan Skywalk. “The newest landmark of Loei Province” this skywalk is 80 meters higher than Mekong River level, or equivalent to a 30-storey building. It has a walkway made of special type of clear glass, a floor width of 2 meters, a length of more than 100 meters, a steel grating to support it, and there is a “Big Buddha image in a posture of blessing, cast with fiber mixed with gold resin, height 19 meters, which is another symbol of this landmark too. You can also see the local Hueang River below flowing through the Mekong River; which can clearly see the two rivers meeting and contrasting colors, Hueang river is also a river that separates the Thai-Laos border as well. It is another check-in point that tourists must visit once when visiting Loei Province ***Highlight*** The viewpoint from the top of Chiangkhan Skywalk shows a clearly sight of Mekong River that flows into Thailand from Laos as a second point after the first meeting point reaches Thailand border at the golden triangle in Chiangsean district in Chiang Rai province before it turns right into Laos via Luang Phrabang and straight down again to Thailand in Chaingkan district.  

15.30 pm Check in at our 3rd night accommodation the Camp Chiangkhan, we will stay at a big cabin Deluxe tent (2-3 row, not a front row) with a few steps to the edge of Mekong river bank.

Relax at the Camp Chiangkhan and get ready for a farewell dinner

17.30 pm Take the group for a dinner at Chiangkhan Walking Street at Heon Luangphrabang Restaurant (Set menu for the group with soft drinks and a glass of beer) then free time to stroll around a night walking street, there are a lot of souvenir shops, snacks, street foods, small bars and a traditional Thai massage for you to explore before travel back to the camp chiangkhan at 21.00 pm.

Relax and good night for Day3

Day4

 06 – 08.00 am Breakfast and check out and travel to Loei Airport at 09.00 am

10.00 am Arrive at Loei Airport. Drop off and check in with Nok Air flight DD373t to Bangkok DMK.
